Since 2012, Temple University’s American Marketing Association (TU-AMA) has hosted an annual regional marketing conference. COVID-19 did not stop the chapter from continuing its tradition. This year, on November 6th, 2020, TU-AMA hosted its 8th Annual Regional Marketing Conference, but with a 2020 twist. For the first time ever, the conference was 100% virtual.
The theme of the conference was “Optimizing Media to Engage Consumers”. This event was highlighted by 4 amazing speakers and 2 competitions all within a brand new virtual format. Speakers included: Manoj Raghunandanan of Johnson & Johnson, Jennifer Kavanagh of the Philadelphia Eagles, John Zissimos of Google, and Jack Mulligan of Netflix. These excellent speakers were complemented by 2 brand new sponsored competitions. These competitions included the Northwestern Mutual Perfect Pitch competition and the Burlington Mock Interview Competition.
The duration of the conference was streamed live via Youtube while competitions were held in Zoom breakout rooms.
Attendees gained insights on how large corporations are utilizing media to adapt to COVID-19, and well as hearing about furthering your professional and personal journey.
This year’s conference was not what was expected when planning started back in June, but so much was learned through the experience. Here are some highlights:
Introduction of 2 brand new sponsored competitions with top 3 contestants winning a cash prize
Schools from across the country were able to attend, including the University of Central Florida, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, and the University of Southern California
Integration of Poll Everywhere for a fluid Q&A
Opportunity for TU-AMA members to introduce speakers
A Youtube Livestream that was able to be viewed all day long
